Outlyer
News:
"3 Bands, 2 Friends, 1 Rhythm Section"
(aka the Tom and Jim Show) turned into "3 Bands, 2 Friends,
1 Rhythm Section, No Show" last month. The reunion of Old
Man Winter and Miss Lake Effect Snow knocked The Riddlers,
and The Pine Dogs reunions clear into the next year. The
show (which will of course also feature the Outlyers) has
been rescheduled for April 20 at Nietzsche's.
Mixes of all songs for "American
Songbook" are almost finished (thanks to Dwane Hall at
Sessions Studio for his patience while we get it right) and
the disc will be mastered and shipped for duplication soon.
The songs:
- The Journey is the Thing
- Tremolo
- Playing Ball with Shoeless
Joe
- A Twist of Regret
- The Ballad of Bo
- The Last Frontier
- Tennessee Real Soon
- If I Wanted To
- Sweet Messenger
- Better Angels
- Rock Castle
Among the highlights:
- The Jim Bohm and Al Monti added
trumpet and sax to the Stax/Volt-styled "5 Minutes
Ago."
- Joe Rozler loaned us an electric 12
string for a Byrdsy-sounding "Sweet Messenger." Actually
he loaned it to us twice. The track was completely
re-recorded in early December because the performance
didn't measure up to the rest of the album (and leaving
this great song off was NOT an option).
- Cathy's mellotron on our cover of
Kathy Moriary's "The Last Frontier" is a spooky coup
de grace.
Watch this space for updates. We plan to
have the new mixes of "The Journey is the Thing" and "Rock
Castle" on our Recordings page soon for web
listeners.
A completed version of "The Journey's the
Thing" is currently available on Sound
Asleep Records' "Hit the Hay 4"
collection. The CD is available (from Sweden) through their
website.
